When you open the door of a refrigeration trailer, hot/humid air will enter the trailer, and frost builds up on both the refrigeration unit evaporator coil and the cargo. That's why good delivery practices on multi-temperature systems require that the refrigeration unit be turned off during loading or unloading.
With Thermo King Extended Remote Controls (ERC), the refrigeration system's cooling operation is automatically interrupted when trailer doors are opened.
The ERC-I system controls the host refrigeration unit during side door openings. When the door to the front compartment opens, the host unit's cooling function is interrupted. Although the host unit is not cooling the front compartment, it continues to operate the remote evaporator in the rear compartment. When the door is closed, the unit automatically resumes cooling.
The ERC-II system includes controls for both the front and rear compartments. When the rear door is opened the rear mounted evaporator shuts down, and is automatically restarted when the door is closed. Although the remote evaporator is no longer cooling the rear compartment, the host unit continues to cool the front compartment.
